Overcoming Trauma through Yoga PDF
By:David Emerson,Elizabeth Hopper, Ph.D.
Published on 2012-01-10 by North Atlantic Books

Survivors of trauma—whether abuse, accidents, or war—can end up profoundly wounded, betrayed by their bodies that failed to get them to safety and that are a source of pain. In order to fully heal from trauma, a connection must be made with oneself, including one’s body. The trauma-sensitive yoga described in this book moves beyond traditional talk therapies that focus on the mind, by bringing the body actively into the healing process. This allows trauma survivors to cultivate a more positive relationship to their body through gentle breath, mindfulness, and movement practices. Overcoming Trauma through Yoga is a book for survivors, clinicians, and yoga instructors who are interested in mind/body healing. It introduces trauma-sensitive yoga, a modified approach to yoga developed in collaboration between yoga teachers and clinicians at the Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute, led by yoga teacher David Emerson, along with medical doctor Bessel van der Kolk. The book begins with an in-depth description of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including a description of how trauma is held in the body and the need for body-based treatment. It offers a brief history of yoga, describes various styles of yoga commonly found in Western practice, and identifies four key themes of trauma-sensitive yoga. Chair-based exercises are described that can be incorporated into individual or group therapy, targeting specific treatment goals, and modifications are offered for mat-based yoga classes. Each exercise includes trauma-sensitive language to introduce the practice, as well as photographs to illustrate the poses. The practices have been offered to a wide range of individuals and groups, including men and women, teens, returning veterans, and others. Rounded out by valuable quotes and case stories, the book presents mindfulness, breathing, and yoga exercises that can be used by home practitioners, yoga teachers, and therapists as a way to cultivate awareness, tolerance, and an increased acceptance of the self. From the Trade Paperback edition.

The Quantum Mind and Healing PDF
By:Arnold Mindell
Published on 2004-03-01 by Hampton Roads Publishing

Quantum Physics You Can Use There is a force underlying all action and circumstance in the universe and you have the ability to tap into this force, interact with it, and use it to heal yourself. This is science talking. Specifically, this is Dr. Arnold Mindell’s new model of medicine based on the mind-blowing findings of a host of quantum physicists--pioneers who are reconfiguring the landscape of our world and belief structure on an almost daily basis. Dr. Mindell is an internationally recognized psychotherapist whose ahead-of-the-curve work led him to found a new school of therapy called Process Oriented Psychology. A graduate of MIT and the Jungian Institute of Zurich, Dr. Mindell is an in-demand speaker at conferences worldwide as well as the author of sixteen previous books. Despite his many achievements, it is not a stretch to say that The Quantum Mind and Healing is quite probably Mindell’s most important and best work yet. In it, Mindell explains that you can use the discoveries of quantum physics to access your body’s own intelligence and self-healing abilities. Embracing both conventional and alternative medicine, he shows that to truly heal you need both medicine and your own natural wisdom. The Quantum Mind and Healing goes well beyond theory, giving you simple techniques, guided exercises, and precise explanations of vital concepts that will enable you to uncover, understand, and eliminate the root causes of even your chronic symptoms and illnesses. With applications beyond physical healing, The Quantum Mind and Healing can also help you overcome long-term emotional and behavioral patterns that may be keeping you from living your greatest potential.

Be Healed PDF
By:Bob Schuchts
Published on 2014-04-07 by Ave Maria Press

In the tradition of such beloved spiritual teachers as Francis MacNutt and Michael Scanlan, Be Healed: A Guide to Encountering the Powerful Love of Jesus in Your Life offers in book form Bob Schuchts’s popular program for spiritual, emotional, and physical healing through the power of the Holy Spirit and the sacraments. This renowned program for spiritual restoration is steeped in scripture and the wisdom of the Catholic Church. Deeply intimate and vulnerable about his own journey of healing, Catholic therapist Bob Schuchts connects with his readers by sharing the series of betrayals he endured in high school—his father’s infidelity, his parents’ divorce, and his older brother’s drug addiction—and his subsequent seasons of struggle with God and faith. Be Healed is based on the program first used in dioceses across the United States to form the hearts and minds of Catholic clergy. Schuchts’s trusted process for finding inner peace and healing is now expanded to serve the entire body of Christ, helping people recognize their brokenness and find hope in the risen Christ.

ABC of Health Informatics PDF
By:Frank Sullivan,Jeremy Wyatt
Published on 2009-04-08 by John Wiley & Sons

New addition to the ABC series looking at how technology can aid health care This ABC focuses on how patient data, health knowledge, and local service information are managed during the routine tasks that make up clinical work. It looks at medical record keeping, how to use the information that records contain for clinical, quality improvement and research activities, how to use new media to communicate with clinical colleagues and patients, and the availability and uses of clinical knowledge resources. After a short introduction to health informatics, each chapter is organised around a typical patient scenario that illustrates information dilemmas arising in clinical consultations. These case studies help make the link between prescribing and treatment. A final chapter considers the implications of informatics and eHealth for the future of the health professions and their work. It also includes a glossary of health informatics terms. Click on the sample chapter above for a look at what is health information.
